The story of the Tasmanian eSchool dates back over 90 years, with the establishment of Distance Education in the state. So, while the Tasmanian eSchool is one of Tasmania’s newest schools (2010), it has one of the oldest histories.
The Tasmanian eSchool offers educational programs and online courses for students from Kindergarten to Year 10 (K-10) based on the Tasmanian/Australian Curriculum. Students who meet enrolment criteria relating to isolation, travel, pregnancy, illness and special circumstances are enrolled at the school either full time, or on a dual basis with another school.
Students are taught using blended learning, which mixes a range of learning opportunities, e.g. online, face-to-face, community and home, to achieve curriculum diversity and to promote student enthusiasm.
The eSchool also provides state-wide services to support home educators, students in hospitals and schools wishing to enrol their students on a fee-for-service basis.
As Tasmania’s only distance and online school, teachers and leaders welcome opportunities to discuss their innovative eLearning pedagogy and to host visitors at their campuses in Launceston and Hobart.
